New Homes

More Less

Silver Residence, Westhampton Beach, NY

Sited amidst a nine-acre lot adjacent to the bay—eight acres of which are zoned for wetland preservation—this project was marked by tight legal and geological parameters. But we chose to see all siting and structural challenges as opportunities to be creative within clearly defined limits. We ultimately produced an open, airy, grand but approachable house of 5,200 square feet, one that is exquisitely site-sensitive and built entirely on pilings. (The water table was so high, even the gunite pool rests on pilings.) With the home’s back wall made almost entirely of glass, being inside looking out feels like you’re at the edge of the world: there’s water as far as the eye can see, from the exquisite man-made pool and spa to the natural glory of the bay and the ocean beyond.
