Designed to sit on a knoll atop an impressive 17-acre parcel, the long, angled structure of this 14,000 square foot home provides distant ocean views from most rooms. Traditional shingle-style details such as eyebrow windows, towers, porches, and deep overhangs are true to the home’s classic roots, while a grand entry hall, two-story great room, sommelier’s wine cellar, and other modern amenities bring it solidly into the 21st century. But what really sets this home apart are the myriad one-of-a-kind details, from vivid landscaping and multi-tiered pools to an elevator, reclaimed limestone floors, and artisinal plasterwork.

As LEED-certified experts, we designed and built this 4,500 square foot home as our commitment to leadership in green architecture. From its metal roof with south facing solar cells, super-efficient icynene insulation, and state-of-the-art HVAC system to radiant heat, water-saving technologies, and Energy-Star appliances, the house provides superior energy efficiency that will continue to accrue savings—and protect the environment.

The home relies on ecologically sustainable interior and exterior materials. Orientation and design provide passive solar gain in naturally illuminated interior spaces.

As the first modern, LEED-certified home for sale in North Haven, this minimalist masterpiece is anything but generic; built by custom builders, it looks like art…and feels like home.

This house suits its setting perfectly, with a nod to the surrounding farm fields and the neighboring horse barn—a classic Hamptons shingle style home. But on the inside, it is all style and sophistication to suit the toniest city penthouse.

The eventual homeowners saw it in its framing stage and loved the house and the site. Working with designer Kevin Bergin of Kevin Bergin, Architecture and Interior Design, they brought their preference for modernist forms and lush materials and wove them seamlessly into the ‘beach house’ idiom. It was an explicit objective to keep the interior spaces from feeling disconnected from the design sense of the shingle style exterior. Using simple formal geometries, timeless architectural materials, and hand crafted detailing, they’ve succeeded in giving this otherwise modern interior a warm sense of lived-in elegance that elicits both the calm of a Zen retreat and the intrigue of a boutique hotel.

Once upon a time a carriage house; today a thoroughly expanded and updated 21st century home. None of the charm of its former existence has been sacrificed. The original beams from the carriage house were preserved as was the original wide-plank flooring. The driveway through the old apple orchard is much the same as it was in the early 1900’s.

When the homeowners purchased it, there was 3,500 square feet of living space. Adding a master suite, two guest bedrooms and two guest baths, and enlarging the kitchen, the house grew to 6,500 square feet. Additionally, the basement was finished and a media room added there.

Floor to ceiling windows where there once were carriage doors bring the outside in. And the exterior spaces are plentiful with second story decks and covered terraces.

Built on an agricultural reserve, this grand home boasts 9,200 square feet of precise handwork and bespoke luxuries. Exposed beams of reclaimed wood punctuate the ceilings of the large country kitchen, with its warm, brick hearth and natural stone finishes. Upstairs bedrooms soar with vaulted ceilings decorated with plasterwork detailing, and an upstairs play area serves the needs of the family’s children. To celebrate the owners’ extensive art collection, special display walls were built for flat art, while customized “art nooks” house specific sculptures. A dedicated stair tower provides a strong architectural and visual element even as it leaves living spaces free and expansive. The final touch: a porte-couchere allows for discreet entry into the garage. This home design won first place in Architectural Digest’s New York, 2008 open audition.
