Designed to sit on a knoll atop an impressive 17-acre parcel, the long, angled structure of this 14,000 square foot home provides distant ocean views from most rooms. Traditional shingle-style details such as eyebrow windows, towers, porches, and deep overhangs are true to the home’s classic roots, while a grand entry hall, two-story great room, sommelier’s wine cellar, and other modern amenities bring it solidly into the 21st century. But what really sets this home apart are the myriad one-of-a-kind details, from vivid landscaping and multi-tiered pools to an elevator, reclaimed limestone floors, and artisinal plasterwork.

Built on an agricultural reserve, this grand home boasts 9,200 square feet of precise handwork and bespoke luxuries. Exposed beams of reclaimed wood punctuate the ceilings of the large country kitchen, with its warm, brick hearth and natural stone finishes. Upstairs bedrooms soar with vaulted ceilings decorated with plasterwork detailing, and an upstairs play area serves the needs of the family’s children. To celebrate the owners’ extensive art collection, special display walls were built for flat art, while customized “art nooks” house specific sculptures. A dedicated stair tower provides a strong architectural and visual element even as it leaves living spaces free and expansive. The final touch: a porte-couchere allows for discreet entry into the garage. This home design won first place in Architectural Digest’s New York, 2008 open audition.

An acronym for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design. LEED is a point-based rating system developed by the US Green Building Council that evaluates the environmental performance from a “whole building” perspective over its life cycle, providing a definitive standard for what constitutes a green building according to six categories:

Design Process
Buildings evaluated by LEED are rated as certified, silver, gold, or platinum. There are a total of 69 LEED credits available in the six categories: 26 credits are required to attain the most basic level of LEED certification; 33 to 38 credits are needed for Silver; 39 to 51 credits for Gold; 52 to 69 credits for the Platinum rating.

His nearly three decades of hands-on expertise in project supervision and daily coordination of subcontractors has earned him the reputation as the East End’s most professional general contractor.

Whether he’s balancing the seamless coordination of sub-contractors, meeting on-site with clients, or detailing homes with decorators, Victor brings a perfectionist’s integrity to everything he does.

Victor lives with his family in Quogue, New York.

Richard S. Granoff, AIA

Richard S. Granoff, AIA, is a founding partner of Charles Rich, LLC and a principal of R.S. Granoff Architects, PC, a full service architecture and design firm. A native of Long Island, Rich has grown to know and understand the temperament of the East End landscape—and has an architecturally distinguished body of work to show for it.

A registered architect in the states of Connecticut and New York, Rich is also a LEED Accredited Professional, focused on sustainable, “green” building practices. He earned a Bachelor of Architecture degree from the Syracuse University School of Architecture, studied in Florence, Italy, and has earned a host of architectural merit awards.

Married with two children, Rich resides with his family in a home he designed and built in Greenwich, Connecticut.

Charles H. Berg

Charles H. Berg has been developing and building houses in the Hamptons since 1985—and is responsible for transforming the East End with his visionary “design-build” concept. Chuck’s guiding philosophy is to create—and build—an intimate relationship between a house and the land on which it lives. Extremely experienced in all project phases from land development and landscaping to financing and construction, his current responsibilities include planning, land acquisition, and “on-time/on-budget” project management.

Taking the best of the past (like traditional approaches to shingle-style construction) with the best of the new (like green, earthy building materials), Chuck’s passion is to bring his clients’ dreams to life.

A graduate of Long Island University, Chuck has completed post-graduate coursework in real estate finance at New York University. He lives with his family in Muttontown and Sag Harbor, New York.
